"I'm confident that the right decision will be made - it's been made twice already - but I want to make it clear that if Cardiff are not in Europe, the position of the national team will be considerably weakened."Quite frankly, I don't give a horse's backside about Cardiff or Swansea as such: you can call them Elephant One and Elephant Two if you like. What interests me is that Elephant One and Elephant Two have the strongest teams, and if we don't get our strongest teams in the strongest European competition, we'll be history, a second-class rugby nation. How much longer do we intend punishing these people for their actions last season? Compared with politics, rugby is a long way down the sporting ladder in this country. It's about time we put it at the top."The next few days will be seen as the acid test for Henry and his blueprint for Welsh rugby. The imaginative New Zealander is attempting to concentrate his adoptive country's talent into four "super clubs" - Cardiff, Swansea, Llanelli and Pontypridd - and 30 of this summer's 37 tourists are already in place. "We have to get ourselves into the 21st century," he said, leaving the WRU in no doubt that in the event of their failure to deliver, he might seek the 21st century elsewhere.Meanwhile, the organisers of this autumn's World Cup have named their panel of 16 referees - a panel that did not include Steve Lander, one of England's three professional officials.

The other full-timers, Ed Morrison and Chris White, were selected, along with Brian Campsall, the teacher from Halifax who was not awarded a Rugby Football Union contract last season.. ANDY FARRELL will maintain his record of playing in every possible match in Super League in one of the big set-pieces of the season at Odsal tonight. The Wigan loose forward has played in all 77 rounds of the competition since it began in 1996, but feared that he might miss the game with Bradford. Farrell could not kick comfortably against Huddersfield last Sunday because of a sore ankle and he has not been able to train this week. He is, however, confident that he will be able to get through a match that pits third-placed Wigan against the side immediately above them in the Super League table. He is named in the starting line-up, alongside Greg Florimo, who has been struggling with a knee injury, but Gary Connolly is only fit enough to be listed among the possible substitutes. It will be fascinating to see Henry Paul up against his old Wigan team- mates for the first time since his move last winter. Some of his form alongside his brother, Robbie, has been as good as anything he produced at Central Park. The Bulls are without Tevita Vaikona for the next month with a groin injury and Bernard Dwyer is not yet ready to return, but Paul Anderson is back.Today also sees Salford, who won their first Super League match of the season against London last week, at Sheffield, the side they knocked out of the Challenge Cup, but the other big game of the weekend is at St Helens. The Super League leaders answered a lot of questions about their temperament by the way they bounced back from defeat by Wakefield at Castleford in midweek.

They face potentially tricky opponents again tomorrow in fifth- placed Warrington.Hull's coach, Peter Walsh, said last week that his team's performances over the next two games would decide his future. There was little sign of any improvement in the defeat at Gateshead on Wednesday night, so tomorrow's game at home to Castleford represents a last chance for Walsh and his players to show that there is something to be gained by sticking together. Two of the sides that Hull and Salford could hope to overhaul, Huddersfield and Wakefield, meet at the McAlpine Stadium, while London - who have dropped Martin Offiah - must improve dramatically on last week's dismal form if they are to beat Gateshead.Kerrod Walters, the Gateshead captain, will be back after a two-week absence, spent with his wife after her road accident in Thailand. The Northern Ford Premiership stages its biggest game of the season so far, with third-placed Leigh at home to the leaders, Hull KR.. The Mayfly season is upon us. This is a hallowed time of year for fly fishermen, some have been waiting for it with a frenzy bordering on the rabid. It is also known as 'Duffer's Fortnight' because the trout go into a feeding frenzy for about two weeks, gorging themselves on big fat Mayfly and throwing caution to the wind, and are therefore pretty easy to catch. It is also known as 'Duffer's Fortnight' because the trout go into a feeding frenzy for about two weeks, gorging themselves on big fat Mayfly and throwing caution to the wind, and are therefore pretty easy to catch.

On the Test last weekend, 52 trout were caught between ten fishermen. Fishing the Mayfly is a wonderful experience, not only because you have a better chance of catching fish but because the imitation Mayfly is big - to imitate the real insect which can be up to 25mm long - so it is easy to see on the water's surface and you don't have to strain your eyes like you do with some teeny flies. The takes are also spectacularly exciting as the trout rise and feed off the surface with an exploding splash. At times the water can resemble a bubbling cauldron and the whole river seems to come alive. Also, usually, the Mayfly conveniently hatches when the weather has started to pick up, the sun is shining, summer fishing gear replaces heavy winter fleeces and picnics are brought out.
